Roeslein & Associates recently made many significant investments at its modular fabrication facility in Red Bud, IL to increase its efficiencies and further its push for lean processes. With these investments came the purchase of a Bystronic BySmart 3015 Fiber 4K Laser Cutting System. This new system allows for additional work to be completed in-house that was previously outsourced while also allowing Roeslein more control of the quality and schedule.

The new laser cutting system began running production parts at the beginning of August and Roeslein is already seeing the benefits. Jon Lawrence, Production Coordinator at Roeslein commented, “We have seen a tremendous increase in our accuracy and efficiency since using the laser cutting system. For example, we needed pipe shoes for a project, and instead of having two or three guys hand cut them taking a week’s worth of time, we were able to have it completed in two hours. This system continues to dramatically increase our efficiency, while also confirming how limitless its potential is as we continue to learn more ways to utilize it”.

The laser cutting system allows Roeslein to cut a thin 20 gauge sheet up to a large 3/4” plate from many materials including carbon, stainless steel, copper, brass and aluminum. Roeslein currently has two operators and two programmers trained on the system with plans to increase the amount of operators to as many as five. To date, Roeslein’s major uses for the laser cutting machine have included making conveyance parts and connection plates for the container manufacturing industry, electrical cabinet doors and pipe shoes. The capabilities that come from the system’s various positionings and speeds integrate seamlessly with Roeslein’s designs and engineering capabilities.
