Roeslein & Associates, Inc. will participate in the United States Depart of Labor, Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA), National Safety Stand Down to Prevent Falls In Construction week, May 2 to May 6, 2016. The purpose of the National Fall Prevention Stand-Down is to raise awareness of preventing fall hazards in construction.

According to OSHA’s website, “Fatalities caused by falls from elevation continue to be a leading cause of death for construction workers, accounting for 337 of the 874 construction fatalities recorded in 2014.“ These falls could have all been prevented, had prevention safety been recognized and followed.

Roeslein’s Modular Fabrication Facility (RMF) in Red Bud, IL is leading the way for Roeslein when it comes to practicing safety. “It is a job expectation to work safe at Roeslein and fall prevention is just one aspect of our program” says Ryan Kirkpatrick, EHS Manager.  “We want to highlight the seriousness of fall hazards and continually investigate ways to engineer out the hazards for both our fabrication facilities and in our construction activities.  Prevention is at the heart of this week.  Pulling our teams together to stop and focus on fall prevention, even if for a moment, is a small win in preventing falls.  At Roeslein we address fall hazards by working to engineer out the fall hazard first. When we just have to work at heights we ensure the hazard is addressed, communicated, and a control is in place.”

Achieving a record 2.39 million hours without a lost time injury with 1.04 million man hours performed in 2015, Roeslein looks to keep their streak going. For National Safety Week, RMF supervisors will host ‘Toolbox Talks’ every morning at 6:00 a.m. specifically focused on fall prevention and protection. Those same talks will be sent to construction managers across the globe to share with their employees. Team Leaders are encouraged to work with their team and to share ideas on ways to prevent working at heights and implementing engineered controls.

Additionally, a fall protection vendor has been scheduled at RMF where they will demonstrate a correct and incorrect harnessed fall with a protection dummy using a lanyard, SRL, and other fall arrest equipment. Wrapping up the event, Roeslein and French Gerleman will host a hot dog social for all employees to celebrate their pledge to safety.
