The installation, start-up, and commissioning of a new greenfield can line was completed by Hanacans, Roeslein, Carnaud Metalbox Engineering, Stolle Corporation, and other valuable mainstream suppliers. It required a relationship of sincere trust, steadfast dedication, and tireless efforts to make this project a success from 10,000 miles away without active participation on site. All those involved were on board as a collaborative group to work through the difficulties COVID-19 presented, which affected travel and immigration restrictions in all parts of the globe.
Brian Sneed, President & COO of Roeslein, said, “From the very beginning of this project, we were confronted with a very aggressive schedule. When the project commenced, we had no way of knowing the challenges we would face due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It is truly a testament to the strong partnership between Roeslein and Hanacans that we could work together to overcome many obstacles and complete this project successfully. Thank you to Hanacans, the Roeslein team, and the many other suppliers involved.”
Sam L. Schaefer, P.E., Project Manager at Roeslein, explained how technology played a vital role in this project’s success. “Communication was crucial throughout this project. The use of Microsoft Teams allowed Hanacans and Roeslein to meet daily to discuss the current project status and let project team members see in real–time the work completed at the plant site through video conferencing.”
Mr. Hidetaka Makabe from Hanacans, JSC, recently commented, “We are very pleased with the consistent communication and team spirit provided by our valued suppliers to ensure our project’s success under unprecedented conditions. We look forward to continuing these relationships in the years to follow – my congratulations to all.”
Throughout this process, the partnership between these companies became stronger. The hard work and dedication from all of those involved allowed the project to be brought to completion ahead of schedule by producing the first pallet of cans on July 15th, 2020. This is a testament to the teamwork performed by Hanacans, Roeslein, and the industry suppliers.
To celebrate this accomplishment, a grand opening celebration was held at their new can manufacturing facility. It was at this time that all the employees from all companies who had a hand in making this project a success were recognized and congratulated.
Currently, Roeslein employees have been supporting the plant remotely six days a week since mid-March to ensure the successful final construction and commissioning phases of the project.
