Roeslein & Associates is proud to announce that its fabrication facility in Red Bud, IL has reached one year without a recordable injury and 541,000 hours without a lost time injury. This accomplishment comes just two months after Roeslein as a whole reached one million hours worked without a lost time incident. Roeslein’s commitment to continuous improvement in safety and productivity has been a key element to its success.
“Safety is our most coveted core competency, but it requires continuous training and focus to internalize our aligned goals and obtain these key results,” commented Chris Hutson, Director of Manufacturing and Lifecycle Support. “Heavy equipment and high-tech machinery coupled with our industrial environment (working at heights, hazardous materials, extreme environmental conditions) requires that we constantly understand the hazards by performing risk assessment and mitigation strategies to produce these levels of safety performance. Our culture of safety is integrated into each thing we do at Roeslein whether that be in the office or at our fabrication facilities. From beginning every meeting with a safety moment, teamwork on lean designs and lean construction methodologies, recognition of accomplishments, “Taking Five for Safety” at every shift tier meeting, and keeping in mind our Safety Cans; “I can, you can, we can”, our safety initiatives have continued to propel us on the safety continuum.”
Over the last five years, Roeslein has grown its EHS department and implemented various initiatives to manage and improve the safety of its employees and visitors. Some of these initiatives include: additional training, daily toolbox talks and stretching, weekly safety meetings, and First Aid and CPR certification courses.
As a result, Roeslein and its employees have received recognitions honoring their safety success. This year alone, Roeslein was awarded the SIOSH Governor’s Award for Contributions in Safety and Health; Ryan Kirkpatrick, EHS Manager at Roeslein, was recognized by Vector Solutions for his outstanding achievements in the area of safety; and Kirkpatrick sat on the Innovations Council at the Grainger Show in March where he and other special guests shared insights on strategy and innovation initiatives.
“I am very proud of our Red Bud fabrication facility team and even more excited to see where we can go from here, ” said Ryan Kirkpatrick, EHS Manager. “Achieving and sustaining an injury free workplace demands strong leadership, commitment from top management, passion for people, focus on controlling risk, the resources to do the job safe and compliantly, an openness to change, and an understanding that safety is not just numbers, but an integral part of doing business. This milestone proves that not only do we want to work safely and compliantly, but we can.”
