Roeslein’s Environmental Stewardship Committee held an Electronic Recycling Event for the company’s domestic offices from April 19 – April 26, 2021, in honor of Earth Day.
Employees were encouraged to donate old electronics. Some of the items that were accepted for donation included cellphones, power tools, televisions, computer equipment, and more. Roeslein covered the cost for all non-profitable items.
Roeslein Modular Fabrication in Red Bud, IL and Roeslein’s St. Louis, MO office location recycled 1,941 pounds of electronic materials to the Midwest Recycling Center. Roeslein’s Denver location recycled 237 pounds of electronic materials to the Blue Star Recyclers, an organization that turns electronic hazards into new jobs. Roeslein’s Pride Conveyance Systems in Hollister, CA donated electronics to All Green Electronics Recycling. The organization reported that Roeslein donated enough electronic waste to prevent 5,801 pounds of carbon emissions from polluting the atmosphere.
“Roeslein’s IT department has always responsibly recycled our business electronics, but I knew we could do more. We partnered with companies certified with e-Stewards and R2, which assures us that our e-waste is properly taken care of, and set up collections at all of Roeslein’s domestic offices, inviting employees to bring in any old electronics.” Sarah Keifer, SharePoint Designer at Roeslein, helped organize the recycling event. She continues, “By having the collection at work, we were able to make it easy for people to do the right thing. Properly recycling electronics keeps e-waste out of our landfills where they can leach toxins into our soil and groundwater; I am pleased that we were able to get so many old items out of people’s houses and keep electronics out of landfills.”
