Roeslein & Associates, Inc. will be incorporating Lean Construction into its business structure. This past July, in its all company meeting, CEO Rudi Roeslein challenged employees to increase their productivity by just 5%, imagining what this could do for the company.
Moving forward with this mindset, and to continually improve its work processes, Roeslein is using the tools and thinking processes of Lean Construction in all of its offices. Lean has been used by companies worldwide and in all industries to drive high levels of productivity and profitability, uncover wasted resources such as time, movement and potential, and to focus on the process of generating value.
President Dave May, Business Development & Marketing Director John DeMoulin, Human Resources Manager Sarah Davidson & Trainer George Friesen of St. Louis Community College addressed Roeslein’s headquarters in St. Louis, Missouri to kick-off its Lean initiative.
During this time of fast growth, Roeslein feels it is especially important that they continually strive to improve the way they do work. To do this, Roeslein is encouraging its employees to monitor their work, observing waste in work processes and eliminating it. To make it easy for them, during the launch in its St. Louis office, Roeslein announced its first phase will include “Idea Boards.” These boards will serve as a way for employees to identify ways the company can refocus its strategies and eliminate waste to, in the end, produce a better service for its customers.
Currently, the team of May, DeMoulin, Davidson, and Friesen are addressing each of Roeslein’s offices individually to roll out this initiative. Once in effect, ideas posted on the idea boards will be reviewed by a selected team and employees can visually see their ideas progressing forward as they are reviewed and either accepted and put into motion or denied. If ideas are denied, an explanation will be attached to the original idea posting and a conversation will be held with that person. The most effective ideas will be rewarded each year.
