Over the past year, Roeslein & Associates’ Wellness Committee has restructured its outreach to employees to focus on total wellbeing. The Wellness Committee at Roeslein has decided to take a ‘total wellness’ approach to their program, focusing on fitness, nutrition, stress management, community involvement and more.
Most recently, Roeslein’s Wellness Committee held their annual spring blood drive. This year’s blood drive took place in their St. Louis office on March 23, 2017, and was through Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center. The St. Louis office completed 12 donations, which will help save close to 36 lives. Their next blood drive will be held August 30th, 2017.
“We are happy that we can help out our community and those around us with such a simple act,” said Madeline Hammel, Roeslein’s Senior Buyer, and this year’s blood drive coordinator. “Giving back is something we all enjoy, and something Roeslein promotes. We hope to keep progressing and have an even bigger turnout next time.”
In addition to hosting a blood drive, the Wellness Committee has been working hard at planning a Wellness Fair for their employees. This event is to be held May 10th, 2017 and will provide tips for overall health and wellness with various representatives on hand. To date, some of the topics being covered at the event are posture, ergonomics, and body mechanics; general fitness; proper walking and running shoes; Medicare, retirement and general heath.
This past fall the committee kicked off a series of fitness challenges by hosting a companywide pedometer challenge, encouraging employees to reach 10,000 steps a day. Following this competition was a friendly “Holiday Hold’em” challenge encouraging employees to maintain their weight throughout the holidays. The committee noted that on average, Americans will gain 3-5 lbs. during the holiday season, Roeslein challenged employees to stay within two pounds of their November weigh-in.
For those who were looking for a little more challenging task, the Wellness Committee recently launched a “Biggest Loser” challenge. The top three winners will each win a cash prize for their hard work and dedication. As the summer weather hits, the committee will be focusing on helping employees stay hydrated by hosting a water drinking challenge that will span roughly two months.
Communication is a big part of the success of Roeslein’s wellness goals. The committee sends out monthly newsletters to their employees which include heart-healthy recipes, simple stretches and/or fitness moves that can be performed at work, health tips from their employee assistance program, a list of upcoming events, and other various motivational items.
