Many schools across the United States face a common problem; education boards are forced to choose which teachers, extra-curricular activities, and trade classes can be kept, and which ones must go. Too often, this can hinder the growth of programs and halt the addition of new classes and programs.

Last month, Red Bud High School’s Industrial Tech class visited Roeslein’s fabrication Ffcility to learn more about a local industrial facility in their community. In their time there, the students partook in an orientation and introduction to Roeslein’s capabilities, were taken on a facility tour and participated in a question and answer session about the workforce.

During this visit, Jared Piel, Industrial Tech teacher for Red Bud High School, communicated his goals for the program with Sarah Davidson, Roeslein’s Human Resources Manager. Unfortunately, due to budget restrictions, he did not foresee being able to expand the program from its current state. To Roeslein’s surprise, the current program structure did not include teaching Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) welding.

TIG welding, also sometimes known as gas tungsten arc welding, is the most common type of welding used at Roeslein and across the piping fabrication industry. It is a process that uses a non-consumable tungsten electrode to produce the weld which keeps the pipes adhered to one another.

The ownership group of Roeslein & Associates quickly heard about the industrial classes visit and Mr. Piel’s want of expanding the program. Knowing about the school’s budget restrictions, the company wanted to do what they could to help the school develop its curriculum.

On May 20, 2016, Roeslein Representatives, Sarah Davidson, HR Manager and Darren Doiron, Receiving Coordinator, presented Red Bud High School and the Industrial Tech Class with a brand new Syncrowave 210 AC/DC TIG and Stick Welder. “This equipment will allow the students to grow in their studies and be more diverse in their welding skills . . . Not only will this expand the student’s skill set, but hopefully it will enable us to use more local resources in the future,” said plant General Manager Tom Reichardt.

“I was thrilled to be able to assist with this donation and help our local Red Bud High School expand the educational opportunities that they offer to their students,” said Sarah Davidson. “I look forward to the coming years when these students can apply for positions at Roeslein, and elsewhere, and know that they have this skillset because of something we were able to contribute.”

This donation was not only made possible by Roeslein & Associates, but also by ILMO Products and Miller Electric Manufacturing Company.
